What's your academic major and how are you able to manage both soccer and your school work?
My academic major is Psychology with a concentration in Clinical. As a freshman, I struggled to balance both soccer and my school work. I often found myself cramming the night before or forgetting small homework assignments because I did not prepare properly. I had a tough time finding a group of friends who supported me and ensured I was on track. However, my second semester I started to become closer with the girls on the team...Julia, Sara, Amanda, Lauren, and Jessie. My grades started to improve, as well as my personal confidence, and outlook on Wesley College. In short, I found that being around my teammates was a positive influence. This is because we had the similar schedules, goals, and values both athletically and academically. I am doing much better now and I am a Junior working hard to graduate next spring.

How do you feel about this past season and getting back to the CAC playoffs?
Amaaazinng! Playoffs are what every athlete lives for...it is a game where a team’s record is completely erased and left up to the team’s heart and determination. I knew our team had this after our game against Marymount. This is because in the last 15 minutes of the game we pulled together and encouraged one another not to give up. We knew we were not coming off that field without a win and proved it by scoring 2 goals to end the game.

 What a Journey!

Wednesday, December 2, 2009 ~ Share ~ View Comments

What a great journey it was for the 2009 Wesley Soccer team. The season finished with a 3-2 CAC playoff loss at York College of PA, but I could not be more proud of what this team accomplished. With the toughest schedule in program history we were able to get back to conference playoffs for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. Four of our losses were to teams that made the National Tournament and at one time during the season eight teams on our schedule were ranked in the top 10 of their regional polls. This is a young team with a bright future and the girls are eager to begin preparations for next season.

 The Final Push!

Monday, November 16, 2009 ~ Share ~ View Comments

Wesley vs. Lebanon Valley - Another long bus journey with a confused bus driver gave the team about a 25 minute warm-up...I've been doing this for a long time and realized the importance of staying calm. If I keep things light the players will not let it bother them. We got off to a strong start when Lindsey Campbell scored her third goal of the season from about 30 yards out to give us the 1-0 lead. We held most of the possession and felt real good at the break. Late in the year and a non-conference game gave me the opportunity to play about 18 players in just the first half and everyone during the game. To start the second, Chelsea Buttacavoli put us up 2-0 just two minutes in for her 1st career goal. Just minutes later, Kim Fearnbach found the back of the net with a brilliant header from 12 yards. This was all we needed on the day and Sydney Kahan recorded her 6th shutout of the season.

 Lindsey Campbell's Week of Honors

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 ~ Share ~ View Comments
What a great week for Freshman midfielder Lindsey Campbell (Bear, DE./Padua)...Lindsey scored both goals last week at Marymount University in a 2-1 victory that helped the Wolverines secure a playoff spot. She was honored by both the Capital Athletic Conference and the Wesley Athletic Department as the Player of the Week. Lindsey started all 18 games this season and finished the year with 5 goals and 1 assists for 11 points. Check out the links below:

Wesley vs Shenandoah - Rainy and Cold (45 Degrees)...After the 3.5 hour bus journey we started out real strong in the opening minutes of the game. At the 13 minute mark we worked a ball outside to Freshman Sarah Doyle who played the perfect cross into Kim Fearnbach who finished with a quality header. The half continued with us controlling most of the possession until Shenandoah got in behind our backs and equalized just before halftime. The weather continued to get bad throughout the match which made for some very difficult conditions for both teams. After a strong 88 minutes of play we gave up a late goal with just over a minute to play. Every loss is tough but with a long journey home you have even more time to think about the game. Great effort and we continue to get stronger each game.

 Wesley Soccer Week #4

Wesley vs #24 Catholic - You always need to remind yourself that the season is a journey not a sprint...This team is playing their best soccer right now and that's the most important thing. We hosted #24 Catholic University on Homecoming and held some great possession and played our most physical game of the year. After going down early in the first half we gained some confidence off tough tackles and playing quicker on the ball. We tied the score at 1-1 when Freshman Samantha Hannibal got behind Catholic's back four and scored her 5th goal of the season. After several chances to take the lead in the first half we were pleased with the effort in the first 45 minutes. The 2nd half was a bit more of how we finished the first half...we had a few early chances but were unable to finish. Catholic took the lead at the 60 minute mark on a quality free kick from 22 yards. Freshman Keeper Sydney Kahan played a great game in net and continues to impress. After pushing numbers forward, Catholic finished the scoring in the 88th minute to complete the 3-1 win.

Wesley vs Widener - After the tough loss to #24 Catholic University, We hosted #3 Regionally Ranked Widener University and a team receiving some National votes during the week. We responded great and came out early with two first half goals from Freshman Samantha Hannibal and some great play on and off the ball. We took a 2-1 lead into the half and playing some of our best soccer to date. Widener came out strong in the second and used some quality play to even the score at 2-2 at the 59th minute. We continued to link up and hold some of the possession, yet were unable to get that third goal...Widener finished the scoring on the day in the 79th minute to get the 3-2 result. We are starting to play some nice soccer and sometimes I need to remind myself that we are young team growing each day.

Wesley vs Hood
- This is a game that the returners have been thinking about since last season. We walked away last year with a tough 1-0 loss in double overtime and I did not have to say much to get them up for the game. They responded well and battled right from the opening whistle...With two or three early chances we took the possession and controlled the early moments of the game. Yet we were unable to finish one of those early chances and Hood continued to add more and more pressure on us. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime. The second half continued with a lot of the play in the middle of the field much like the end of the first 45 minutes. In the 63rd minute we received a break when So. Kim Fearnbach got tripped up in the box and were awarded a PK....Steps up Freshman Lindsay Campbell who buried the goal in the top right hand corner...That's all we needed and took our second conference win of the season. We are currently 2-3 in conference play and look forward to hosting Stevenson University Friday, October 16th.

What's your academic major and how are you able to manage both soccer and your school work?
My academic major is nursing. It is definitely a challenge managing both soccer and nursing but it's all about time management and being able to say no when you're friends want to go out. It's hard but as long as you stay on track it's manageable.

Who is your favorite soccer player in the world?
Well as a goalkeeper, I'd have to say Tim Howard! I love him! But if I were to pick a field player it would definately have to be Lionel Messi.

Why did you choose to attend Wesley College?
I chose Wesley because I was looking for a small school towards the south that had both an excellent nursing department and a competitive D3 soccer program. I also stayed overnight with the soccer team before I made my decision which really helped me.

What's in your IPOD right now?.

Everything! I love all types of music, so you can find all sorts of stuff on it right now.

When and Why did you start playing soccer?

I started playing soccer when I was four years old and I think my parents just wanted me out of their hands for a while. But I fell in love with the sport and just kept playing.

What club team did you play for prior to attending Wesley?

I played for Fortuna Rhode Island.

What are your thoughts about England/Scotland Tour 2010?

I am so excited for the trip! I can't wait to not only play some soccer while I'm there but to also experience a professional game! I think what's really going to make the trip memorable is being able to go with the team. It's going to be a great bonding experience so it should be really fun!

What do you think about the New state of the art Wesley Soccer Team Room?
I love the team room! The coaches put a lot of effort into it and I know everyone on the team really appreciates it and we know how lucky we are to have it. It's so professional and really, really nice!

Former Wesley Soccer standout Kristin Lupo (Class of 1997) was inducted into the Wesley College Athletic Hall Of Fame. Kristin finished her career with 48 points which ranks 6th All-Time and her 17 assists puts her 2nd in the record book. She is the first Wesley Women's Soccer player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Lupo currently resides in Dover, DE and teaches Chemistry at Dover High School. For the past 11 years she has been the Head Coach for the Girl's Soccer Team at Dover. In 2005 and 2007 Kristin was named the Cape Henlopen Coach of the Year.  Wesley Soccer Week #3

Wesley vs Salisbury - Last week the Wolverines took the field against Route 13 rival and #19 Nationally Ranked Salisbury University. Salisbury took control of the game early and converted two first half goals. The Sea Gulls scored at the 7 minute mark with a rebound off the crossbar and finished the first half with a great strike from outside the box. The girls battled hard throughout the game and had their best chance in the second half when Samantha Hannibal hit the post on a break away. Salisbury converted two more goals in the second and finished with a 4-0 victory. We will look to get back on track against non-conference Penn State Abington.

Wesley vs. Penn State Abington - The players took the field last Thursday night against non-conference opponent Penn State Abington and exploded for 11 goals on the evening. Freshman Samantha Hannibal, Sammie Nevin and Kaitlin Barry all finished the game with 2 goals. Freshman Linsdey Campbell, Kim Juhas, Katie Fitzmartin and BreAnne Galloway also scored one goal on the night and Junior Julia Defelice also converted a goal. We outshot PSU Abington 58-0 and dominated corners 5-0. Next up will be conference opponent St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Currently, we have 2 Nationally Ranked and 8 Regionally Ranked teams on our schedule. Up this week is conference opponent Gallaudet University and #23 Nationally Ranked Catholic University. Both games this week will be played at Scott D. Miller Stadium and broadcast live!

 Wesley Soccer Week #2

Wesley vs. Richard Stockton - After a few good days of training the players felt positive about their upcoming game with #3 Regionally Ranked Stockton. The players came out of the locker room with a strong and physical start to the game. The game remained scoreless after 44 minutes of play until a wacky play that left a Stockton player alone with a one v one with the keeper. With under 50 seconds to play in the half Richard Stockton took the early 1-0 lead. The young Wolverines kept their heads up and continued to press on in the second half. Yet within a 5 minute span Stockton took command of the game with a 3-0 lead and would not look back. The Wesley defense held the Osprey to only 11 shots and 2 corners, yet the Wolverines could not get on the board. Wesley will look to turn it around vs. Cabrini College.

Wesley vs. Cabrini - Heading into the game with Cabrini I knew we would be down another starter when Junior Captain Sara Gergen got injured vs. Stockton. Our starting lineup just got younger when the Wolverines started all first year players in the back. The Wolverines continued their strong defensive soccer led by first year players Sarah Doyle, Brittany MacNeil and Hannah Hardman. After a scoreless first half, the Wolverines raised the pressure on the Cabrini backs and was rewarded with Kaitlin Barry's second goal of the season. Sydney Kahan recorded her second shut out of the season and came away with 3 saves on the night. Wesley evened its record at 2-2. Thanks for all the support Wesley Soccer Fans...Over 220 at the game...

 Wesley Soccer Week #1

Wesley vs. Haverford - I knew this would be a great test for our young team from the time I scheduled the match. All week we talked about coming out with quality energy and confidence from the opening whistle. Yet, the experience of the Fords was tough to overcome. We started 7 first year players and showed early signs of nerves. The Fords jumped on the scoreboard quick and headed into the break with a 2-0 lead. After a few half time adjustments the players settled down and we played a strong second half, which saw Freshman Sammie Nevin score her first career goal and Freshman keeper Sydney Kahan continue her strong play. We fell 3-1 in the opening match but learned a great deal about this team. Haverford is currently ranked #9 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Wesley vs. Washington - After the tough loss to Haverford, the players showed a high work rate at the two training sessions coming into the game. I knew the team would respond and show up to play! They played with confidence and passion right from the warm-up. This game saw the Wolverines go with 9 first year players to start the game. With some nice chances early, we came out and controlled the game with some early possession. In the 41 minute, Freshman Kaitlin Barry brought a great ball down in the box and volleyed a strike into the top of the goal. Wesley took a 1-0 lead into the break. At halftime, the players talked about coming out strong and getting that early strike. We did just that when Freshman Samantha Hannibal connected from 18 yards out just 13 minutes into the second. With a quality defensive effort from Junior Captain Sara Gergen and first year players Hannah Hardman and Brittany MacNeil, Wesley evened its record at 1-1.

Next Game: 9/9 Richard Stockton - 7:00pm @ Scott Miller Stadium
